CIEEM Webinar: Science Communication for Ecologists

Communicating your work in an engaging way is an important skill to develop and it can also be great fun. This webinar will give an overview of the scope of science communication in the field of ecology and environmental management, along with practical tips and signposts to further resources to take you beyond posting a few odds and ends on social media. You can use these skills to inspire the public to care about the natural environment you are working to protect but also to communicate the importance of your work to policy makers and other professionals from outside your discipline. We’ll cover the principles of good SciComm, platforms such as social media, blogging, podcasting and video, and skills such as writing, video editing, sound recording, taking better field photos and the creation of infographics. Book your place to see how you can increase the reach and impact of your work.

This webinar will be hosted by Vicky Bowskill. Vicky is a PhD researcher in floodplain meadows at the Open University (and former member of the CIEEM Secretariat). Vicky is also a writer and illustrator who has explored many ways of communicating her research to a varied audience and will be sharing some of the things she’s learned along the way. You can find out more about Vicky and her work at www.vickybowskill.com.

Vicky will be joined by Amber and Jason from the CIEEM Policy Team and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and tell us how CIEEM can support you to communicate your message.
