The Water Shrew Handbook is the first guide to British water shrews and covers their biology, ecology and conservation. It includes national distribution maps from the Mammal Society’s water shrew survey, and information on survey methods (live trapping and bait tube method) and management advice.
Note: Use of bait tubes can only confirm sites are positive for water shrews and cannot be used to confirm absence of the species.
Live trapping of shrews should only be undertaken by competent persons following terms and conditions detailed in the Licence to take shrews.
This is part of our Good Practice Guidance for Water Shrews, produced by Phoebe Carter.
