AWN’s team is among the most experienced environmental teams in Ireland. We cater to a diverse range of public and private client sectors, including Fortune 500 inward investors, manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceuticals/biopharmaceuticals, residential developments, and major infrastructure. AWN assists its clients (public and private) with a variety of environmental sector activities, such as Environmental Impact Assessments, EPA Licensing, water/waste-related compliance, air quality impact assessments, acoustics design, and process safety management under the Seveso III Directive/COMAH. AWN client sectors include semi-conductor manufacturing, data centres, chemical distribution, pharmaceuticals/biopharmaceuticals, wind farms, large scale residential developments, and public infrastructure.

Position Overview

AWN is expanding its Environmental Team to provide in-house ecological services, and is currently seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist. The successful candidate will join our dynamic team based in Dublin, collaborating on challenging and exciting projects spanning various sectors, including data centres, large-scale residential developments (LDR), and commercial developments. The Environmental Team based in Dublin, includes a diverse group including environmental consultants, geologists, hydrogeologists, chemists, and environmental scientists.

The successful candidate will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver and manage a range of ecological input and advice in line with client requirements. Candidates should have good people skills, be driven, and also work well in a team environment. A balance of technical, communication/written and field skills is sought to flexibly contribute to a variety of different projects.

For the right candidate we will consider remote workers within Ireland, but the candidate would be required to travel to the office every now and then.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Ecologist, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Technical report writing including preparation of EcIA/biodiversity chapters for EIAR, AA, NIS, and ecological inputs to EIAR Screening, EIAR Scoping, SEA and Site Selection.
  • Providing leadership by managing sub-consultants and ecological specialists to meet project requirements effectively.
  • Communicating with clients, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with all project requirements.
  • Assisting in project and program management of post-planning approval assistance, specifically related to ecology including the provision of ECoW services.
  • Preparation of and creating proposals to address client needs.
  • To keep up to date with Irish and EU legislative and best -practice changes with regard to ecology and to brief our environmental team of same.
  • Assist and take a leading role in the growth of our ecological offerings.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working as an ecological consultant.
  • Experience in working in the context of Irish and European legislation (e.g. Habitats Directive, Birds Directive, EIA Directive, and transposing Irish Regulations).
  • Proven track record in preparing EcIA/biodiversity chapters for EIAR, AA/NIS.
  • Minimum BSc or BA (Hons) degree in ecology or related discipline (post graduate qualification desired).
  • Full or eligibility for full membership of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
  • Self-motivated, organised and capable of working on their own initiative.
  • High attention to detail, excellent report writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and assemble various strands of complex data into clear, concise outputs.
  • Capacity to respond to tight timelines, reporting needs, and internal reporting structures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Track record in, and willingness to continue with, field work.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Confidence working with GIS platforms.
  • Full Clean Driving Licence.
