Monitoring officer (Tameside Borough Council)

The Role

The Greater Manchester Ecology Unit is recruiting a Biodiversity Net Gain Monitoring Officer to increase the capacity of the Ecology Team to meet new responsibilities under the Environment Act 2021.

As Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) gathers pace, becoming mandatory for most developments this year, the team need additional capacity to design and implement monitoring, management and reporting systems, advise and train colleagues, and help to prepare local policy and guidance.

As the Greater Manchester Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) is developed and implemented, there will also be a need to monitor and report on the progress of the LNRS.

BNG offers an exciting, improved opportunity to achieve ecological betterment via development. Alongside desk-based work on BNG monitoring policy, advice and administration, there will be opportunities to undertake field surveys for land potentially being used for off-setting, and to monitor sites that have received off-set biodiversity units.

Within the wider Ecology Team and the work of the Local Biological Records Centre, there will also be opportunities to undertake a wide range of environmental projects and ecological surveys, and the Monitoring Officer will be able to support on these, where time and interest permit.
