Ecology Officer (East Riding of Yorkshire Council)

We seek an enthusiastic and skilled individual to join the council’s busy Planning Service working within the Nature Conservation and Trees Team.

As an Ecologist, you will join us at a very exciting time as the team looks to meet the challenge of ensuring that Biodiversity Net Gain is delivered through development.  You will play a key role in delivering that goal assessing Biodiversity Net Gain Plans, as well as ecology surveys and submissions under Habitat Regulations.  Additional duties include working closely with Planning Officers, Members, and developers together with the provision of advice to members of the public.

In return we can offer a supportive and forward-looking team, always looking for new ways to improve our service and for colleagues to develop professionally.  We are part of the National Design Code pilot and are embracing the opportunities of digital planning in our service transformation.

We can also offer a modern working environment.  We believe in supporting people to develop and offer excellent training opportunities, both in house and with our partners for ecology/planning related subjects as well as management and leadership.

We also support chartered and aspiring members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management with paid professional subscriptions and access to regular CPD.

We cover a large area from York to Hull and the Yorkshire coast which includes wide rural areas, affluent market towns, large regional employment sites, regeneration areas and nationally and internationally recognised protected ecological sites and landscapes.  This means that we can offer a varied and interesting workload for an ecologist, looking for a new challenge or an individual looking to progress your career to this level.

The council and planning department are based in the centre of the beautiful market town of Beverley, (named as one of the top ten places to live in the north of England by the Sunday Times), with outstanding schools, attractive housing, spectacular Minster and Westwood and with a vibrant town centre.

Hours: 37 per week as part of a full-time, permanent contract.  We operate blended working with a mix of office and home working and flexible working hours.

Benefits include the generous Local Government Pension Scheme and holiday allowance, paid professional subscriptions, support for CPD and other training opportunities, discounted gym membership and we may also be able to offer a relocation package.

We look forward to hearing from you if you feel that you could be the right fit for our team.|

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pursuing equality of opportunity in employment.
