Ecology Officer (Gedling Borough Council)

An exciting new role has been created to help deliver the Council’s new duty to secure Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) through development. You will provide specialist advice on the ecological implications of development, ensuring that qualifying development delivers a minimum of 10% net gain. You will also provide advice on opportunities for the enhancement of public open spaces throughout Gedling and work with key stakeholders to develop wildlife strategies.

You will be an experienced ecologist with demonstrable understanding of the principles of BNG, the requirements of the Environment Act and other relevant legislation and policy. Ideally you will have an understanding of the planning process and the ecological context.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about wildlife and can demonstrate a good level of understanding and experience in assessing the ecological implications of development proposals. You must hold a relevant degree and be an Associate or Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards full membership.

The successful candidate must be well-organised and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. You must also have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to contribute to a high-quality service to our customers.

A casual car user allowance attaches to the posts giving access to free onsite parking and you will have access to the Local Government Pension scheme.
