Technical Director Ecology (Gavia Environmental Ltd)

Job description

  • Provide technical expertise and support to the team and our clients on a wide range of technical areas including EIA (to include ecology, aquatics and ornithology).
  • Review and approve specialist reports as well as project proposals.
  • Maintain an awareness of legislation and the potential impact on the various projects.
  • Work in close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.
  • Liaise with clients and authorities.
  • Ensure the team maintains a high-quality standard in the services provided and produces defensible deliverables.
  • Continuously improve and develop the services offered within the department.
  • Maintain a good understanding of all levels of the planning system.
  • Ability to manage and work efficiently and diligently to reasonable deadlines.
  • Good organizational and management skills.
  • Good written skills, with attention to detail, experience of preparing technical reports and ability to present and communicate findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Hold a range of species survey and mitigation licenses.
  • A strong communicator with good interpersonal and negotiating skills, to enable effective working with multi-disciplinary external and in-house teams and an ability to liaise with clients and stakeholders at a professional level.
  • An ability to provide clients within an ecologically sound scheme.
  • Examination in Public or Public Inquiry experience.

Departmental Management

  • Manage the performance management and probation processes for the team.
  • Provide mentorship to and develop the team.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree and Full Member of CIEEM.
  • Full UK-valid driving license.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Work Experience:

  • Six or more years’ experience in the relevant field, preferably within the consulting environment would be beneficial.
  • Two or more years’ experience managing a small team would be beneficial.
