CIEEM Supports Green Job Delivery

We have been invited to be a part of the UK’s first ever dedicated group for creating UK green job opportunities, the Green Jobs Delivery Group.

The group, co-chaired by Energy Minister Greg Hands, will support the delivery of up to 480,000 skilled green jobs by 2030 and will help ensure the UK has the skilled workforce it needs to build clean industries and transition to cheaper renewables. It will also ensure that workers, businesses and local areas are supported throughout the transition in eliminating the UK’s contribution to climate change by 2050.

Developing green jobs in biodiversity and forestry will also be covered by the group that will be made up of over 20 representatives from business, including CIEEM. Ministers from various departments including Minister for Employment Mims Davies, Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills Alex Burghart, and Minister for Nature Recovery Rebeca Pow will also join the Group.

CIEEM CEO Sally Hayns CEcol FCIEEM, who attended the inaugural meeting of the Green Jobs Delivery Group on 11 May, said:

At a time when our sector is facing a capacity crisis, lacks meaningful diversity and equality of opportunity we welcome this new action-focused Delivery Group, which we are pleased to be part of. The work of ecologists and environmental managers will be critical to delivering environmental ambitions across the UK and we need to rethink how we talk about, promote and access green jobs. We need to be acting now, because our workforce problems are only going to get worse as new legislation and policies take effect.
