Michael Gove appointed as new Environment Secretary

On 11 June 2017, Michael Gove was appointed as the new Environment Secretary.

Mr Gove has since said that he needs to “listen to environmentalists” to work out how we can “maintain and enhance our environment.”

In relation to the badger cull he said that he wants “to look at scientific evidence in order to make sure that policy is being shaped in accordance with the science.” However, he also said that there was no intention to change the current policy on bovine TB.

He made the above comments during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today programme on 19 June 2017.

George Eustice MP, Thérèse Coffey MP and Lord Gardiner of Kimble remain in post as the rest of the Defra ministerial team.
