Ecologist (Cornwall Council)

Cornwall Council has an exciting role available for a qualified Ecologist to provide specialist advice to the environment and planning services along with other partners. The primary requirements of the role are to be the point of contact for professional ecological advice and guidance for the Council’s planning teams, capital projects and estate management.

You will be the point of contact for ecological advice on strategic planning and corporate policy documents and contribute to their preparation, advising on Biodiversity Net Gain and Habitats Regulations Assessments for the Council. You will represent the Council at meetings with local and national organisations and partnerships and to promote the Council’s biodiversity commitments and policies.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

Working Pattern:

The role is a 22 hours per week

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience in the field of ecology, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience across all sectors including public, private, and voluntary.
  • Experience in building effective relationships and enhancing the reputation of an organisation with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Understanding of the principles of biodiversity net gain, ecological impact assessments, and habitat creation/management to enhance ecological value within development projects.
  • knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation regarding protected and priority habitats and species.
  • Strong knowledge of best practice principles relating to ecology and biodiversity.
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in promoting and implementing sustainable ecological practices.
