Election Season is Upon Us: Volunteer Nominations Wanted!

Concerned about the climate? Bothered by biodiversity loss? The IPCC’s latest report has struck a chord with many. We are in the depths of a climate and ecological crisis, and it is up to us to act on it!

Volunteering for CIEEM is one step our members can take towards helping the ecology and environmental management sector tackle the enormous challenge it faces, here and now. We aim to create a more healthy, sustainable future for both people and planet, and your enthusiasm, experience and expertise are in high demand to help us do this. If you are someone who wants to make a real difference, read on…

CIEEM are seeking nominations for some exciting, influential and rewarding roles in this year’s volunteer committee elections. Deadline for nominations in Friday 24 September 2021.

We highly recommend that you view our newly updated 2021 Elections and Volunteer Opportunities pages on the My CIEEM portal on our website. There you will find more information about each specific role available, as well as details and the form needed to apply. The roles available are also summarised below.

Ahead of our AGM, we are currently seeking nominations for the Vice-Presidents for England, the island of Ireland and Wales.  The Vice Presidents are members of the Governing Board (and trustees) and proactively engage with key stakeholders in the country (or countries) they represent, as well as playing a full role in the governance of the Institute. Candidates do need to be resident in the country (or one of the countries) they represent.

We are also seeking a new Honorary Secretary. The Honorary Secretary is a member of the Governing Board and the Audit and Risk Committee with lead responsibility for the health and safety and welfare of the Secretariat staff.

There are two vacancies for ordinary (non-lead) Members of the Governing Board who will take a full part in decision-making and influencing the strategic goals and development of the Institute.

For those unable to commit to being a Governing Board member but wanting to dip their toe into becoming involved in the decision-making of the Institute, there are three vacancies for the Advisory Forum. Forum members meet twice a year to provide advice and feedback from the membership to the Governing Board.

There are also plenty of roles available in our fantastic geographic section Member Network committees. These are groups run by CIEEM members for CIEEM members, and provide opportunities to network, share knowledge and learn more about the science and practice of our amazing profession! They also have a role to play in promoting professional standards, feeding into consultations, supporting students and early careers members, and representing the views of members at a local and national level. Sounds good, right? See the roles available on our regional and country Member Networks here.

For all CIEEM Volunteer roles, a full induction will be available to you (both as new volunteer, or an existing / newly re-elected volunteer) as a reminder of what tools and resources are available to you in your role and how to make the most out of your volunteering opportunity. There is plenty of support available from our friendly, passionate volunteers already on CIEEM committees. Staff at the CIEEM Secretariat will also be on hand to provide assistance where possible. We work together collaboratively as one team.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything your Institute does, and with your support it can continue to grow as a driving force for professional standards, and take care of the wonderful community of people in the sector who want a better future for nature and our environment.

Amazing volunteering opportunities at CIEEM await you… apply now!
