Biodiversity Net Gain Principles: Consultation on the 2016 Principles and Experience from Practice
In 2016, with support from Balfour Beatty, – IEMA, CIRIA, and CIEEM, developed under-pinning principles to help professionals and UK industry address the challenge for development to leave biodiversity in a better state than before, known as biodiversity net gain.
IEMA are hosting a webinar that will present on the IEMA, CIEEM, CIRIA 2016 good practice principles for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). It will introduce experience from professionals and a short consultation on potential revision and improvements, with poll questions for engagement and feedback opportunity. The webinar will be followed by an on-line questionnaire to expand this consultation in more detail.
- Nick Blyth, Policy Lead for IEMA on Climate Change and Natural Environment , will host this webinar and briefly introduce the 2016 BNG principles and their rationale to underpin credible claims and professional practice in this field.
- Dr Nick White – Principal Adviser, Net Gain at Natural England will update on UK policy developments concerning environmental and biodiversity net-gain
- Julia Baker, Biodiversity Technical Specialist for Balfour Beatty Highways, will present examples of how the principles have been applied in practice, as well as some of the challenges and solutions from professionals working to deliver BNG through developments.
This webinar is an opportunity to understand and to help inform the continuing improvement of professional practice. It will take place on 25 September 2019 from 12:30-13:30.
