Assistant Ecologist Apprenticeship Approved for Development

CIEEM is delighted to announce that the application for the creation of a Level 4 Assistant Ecologist Apprenticeship has been approved by the Approvals Committee at the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE). This important milestone means that we can now move forward with developing the apprenticeship standard and assessment plan in collaboration with the Trailblazer Group, a collective of employers from across the ecology sector.

The approval represents a significant step forward in strengthening career pathways for aspiring ecology professionals, providing an accessible route into the sector while addressing key skills gaps. The new apprenticeship will offer a structured and supportive framework for developing the next generation of ecological practitioners.

Emma Hatchett, Head of Nature Services at WSP and Chair of the Trailblazer Group comments:

Leading the development of the Level 4 Assistant Ecologist Apprenticeship is a fantastic experience so far. This initiative not only paves the way for aspiring ecology professionals but also addresses critical skills gaps in our sector. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the Trailblazer Group to shape a robust and supportive framework for the next generation of ecological practitioners.

CIEEM will continue to work closely with the Trailblazer Group to ensure the apprenticeship reflects the needs of the industry and provides a high-quality learning experience. We will keep our members and stakeholders informed about progress and upcoming opportunities to engage with the development process.
