Associate Director Ecology (Solutions Driven)

Job Summary:

The Associate Director plays a key leadership role in driving the strategic direction, growth, and success of the consultancy. This position is responsible for providing senior-level expertise, client engagement, team leadership, and project oversight to ensure the delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy services.

Role based in Broadway, Worcestershire – needs to be in office at least 1 day/week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of the company’s strategic plan, vision, and goals.
    • Identify market opportunities, trends, and challenges to inform strategic decision-making and business development efforts.
  • Business Development:
    • Lead business development activities, including identifying and pursuing new clients, opportunities, and partnerships.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners to drive revenue growth and expansion.
  • Client Management:
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for key clients, ensuring their needs, expectations, and satisfaction are met.
    • Collaborate with project teams to deliver innovative, tailored solutions that address client challenges and objectives.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
    • Support professional development initiatives, training programs, and career advancement opportunities for team members.
  • Project Oversight:
    • Oversee the successful delivery of ecological consultancy projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints.
    • Monitor project progress, risks, and outcomes, and implement corrective actions as necessary to mitigate issues and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Maintain advanced knowledge and expertise in ecological consulting principles, methodologies, and best practices.
    • Contribute to technical reviews, assessments, and reports, providing expert advice and recommendations to clients and project teams.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in ecology, environmental science, or related field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Ideally holds at least two protected species licences and accredited agent on a mitigation/development licence.
  • Strong experience (5+ years) in ecological consultancy, with a proven track record of success in project management, business development, and client management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams and build positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ecological assessment, impact mitigation, and regulatory compliance across a range of sectors and project types.
  • Membership in relevant professional bodies or associations (e.g., CIEEM) and commitment to ongoing professional development and industry engagement.
