Guidance on Species Reintroductions in England Published
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Natural England have today published guidance for anyone considering species reintroductions or other conservation translocations in England.
The documents published today include a general guide to species reintroductions and conservation translocations, a code and good practice guidance. The publication of a code and good practice guidance for conservation translocations in England fulfils an action set out in the government’s 25 Year Environment Plan.
Conservation translocations are the deliberate movement and release of plants, animals or fungi into the wild for conservation purposes. This includes reintroductions, which are one type of conservation translocation covered by the code and guidance.
The code, guidance and forms seek to help landowners and members of the public:
- decide whether a conservation translocation is appropriate
- work out what licences and other permissions are needed
- increase the chance of potential benefits, and
- reduce the chance of negative outcomes.
