CIEEM Webinar – Biodiversity COP15: Biodiversity Threats, Conservation and Restoration (Part 1 of 2)

Join CIEEM for the first of two webinars ahead of the Convention on Biological Diversity COP15. COP15 will take place in Kunming in April and May 2022 where global leaders will agree a new Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). Although Climate COP26 is occupying all the headlines, we have to remember the other crisis facing humanity – the loss of nature.

These two major crises are interlinked and need to be addressed in tandem. This panel discussion webinar will focus on the threats, conservation and restoration of biodiversity. It will include skills and capacity, targets and enforcement, and public engagement. The webinar will include questions from the audience.

Panelists:

  • Richard Benwell, Wildlife and Countryside Link
  • James Curran MBE, environmental scientist
  • Isobel Mercer, RSPB

Host:

  • Sally Hayns, CIEEM

Broadcast live on 24 November 2021.

Note:

One of the audience members asked for the reference to the 5-continent habitat experiments. It’s here: Haddad NM et al., 2015, “Habitat fragmentation and its lasting impact on Earth’s ecosystems”, Science Advances, Vol 1 (No.2) and it can readily be accessed online at: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.1500052.
