CIEEM publishes briefing on Planning and Infrastructure Bill amendments

CIEEM has published our briefing on the amendments we would like to see applied to the Bill during the next stage as it passes through Parliament.

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill is currently making its way through Parliament. It will next be debated on 24 April by the Bill Committee. Following this stage, all MPs will have a chance to debate the Bill during Report stage. The Bill will then move to the House of Lords for further consideration.

Please do consider contacting your own MP in relation to amendments to the Bill.

In setting out the amendments that we would like to see, we have prioritised those areas of the Bill that we feel pose the most risk to the natural environment.

The six amendments we are asking for relate to:

  1. Protecting irreplaceable habitats
  2. Delivering enhancements in advance of harm
  3. Ensuring an overall environmental improvement
  4. Making the overall improvement test more robust
  5. Ensuring implementation of the mitigation hierarchy
  6. Removing the economic viability constraint
