New Countryside Ranger Apprenticeship Launched
This National Apprenticeship Week (8 – 14 February), eight major land managers, including the National Trust, Natural England, National Park authorities, Canal and River Trust, RSPB, Wildfowl and Wetland Trust, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and Dorset Council, have launched a new Level 4 Countryside Ranger Apprenticeship to help individuals wanting to progress within countryside management, and employers looking to hire someone new or upskill existing employees.
The scheme typically takes 26 months to gain competence in all the knowledge, skills and behaviours and then up to 6 months to complete the End-Point Assessment. Once complete, apprentices will be qualified in roles such as countryside, community or recreation rangers, reserve or countryside wardens, estate supervisor or estate and park rangers.
CIEEM is one of the training providers involved with the Level 4 Countryside Ranger Apprenticeship, alongside Bridgwater & Taunton College, Warwickshire College, Lantra, and the Countryside Management Association.
We are also pleased to have supported the development of two other apprenticeships: Level 6 Environmental Practitioner Apprenticeship which covers a range of environmental practitioner roles, including natural environment management, and Level 7 Ecologist Apprenticeship which offers three options for the type of apprenticeship: Ecological Consultant; Ecological Scientist or Landscape Ecologist (please note the Level 7 scheme does not yet have a training provider).
Offering different routes into the profession is increasingly important as a means of promoting a diverse workforce with a variety of backgrounds and experience.
