Scotland’s Beaver Strategy Published
NatureScot has, on behalf of Scotland’s Beaver Strategy Organising Team, published a new national strategy for managing and conserving beavers to 2045.
Scotland’s Beaver Strategy 2022-2045 sets out plans to support communities to maximise the environmental and wider benefits of beavers, while minimising negative impacts through effective management and mitigation, and expanding beaver populations to new catchments.
The strategy highlights the need for ongoing research and monitoring of the beaver population and its effects to inform and improve management as the population expands, using existing and new techniques and technologies.
The document is accompanied by an implementation plan which sets out the goals, objectives and actions to be undertaken to deliver the strategy.
The development of the strategy has involved more than 50 stakeholder organisations, including CIEEM. We were represented by Chris Spray FCIEEM on the stakeholder engagement group.
