New Themes for In Practice Magazine

The In Practice Editorial Board has agreed new themes for In Practice magazine to the end of 2022.

We have started to give a narrative to themes to help potential contributors decide if the edition is right for them.

2021

Themes for the rest of 2021 are:

Edition Theme Submission Deadline
June 2021 Biosecurity and Invasive Species n/a
September 2021 30th Anniversary Edition: The Next 30 Years 21 May 2021
December 2021 Urban and Cultural Ecology 20 August 2021

2022

The newly agreed themes for 2022:

March 2022 – Working on Site

  • We welcome submissions on any aspect of on-site ecology, conservation and environmental management work. This can include Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) and working with other sectors (construction, development, land management, agriculture etc.). We also welcome articles relating to communications with other professionals and the public, site health and safety, and also how COVID-19 has changed working practices or created innovative ways of working.

June 2022 – Nature-Based Solutions

  • This issue’s theme can be broadly interpreted, including practical solutions to the nature and climate crises, linking climate and biodiversity with social challenges, integrating natural capital into decision-making, ecological restoration and creation, and ecosystem-based adaptations.

September 2022 – Bryophytes and Lichens

  • This is a focused edition on mosses, liverworts and lichens, although we would also welcome articles on fungi and algae (including diatoms) – collectively what used to be called the ‘lower plants’. Issues that we are interested in include (but are not limited to) restoration and management of relevant habitats, their use in habitat, air and water quality assessments, and also taxonomy and identification skills.

December 2022 – Non-themed

  • Submissions welcome on any topic.
