Let’s Celebrate Volunteers: A Word from CIEEM President

Richard Handley CEcol MCIEEM – CIEEM President

“Like many organisations I have worked with in the past CIEEM relies heavily on an amazingly, large, diverse, dedicated and talented team of volunteers. What distinguishes CIEEM volunteers, in my mind, is how critical they are to the running of the Institute. We really couldn’t do it without them and I know the Board, the staff and the members all benefit from and enjoy working as a team with this amazing group of people. They should be proud about the contribution they are making to delivering our mission to promote the highest standards of professional practice, and to raise the profile of professional ecological and environmental management, for the benefit of nature and society.”

We are currently recruiting for more volunteers to assist our Board by joining the Audit, Risk and Investment sub-Committee!

Do you have experience of managing organisational risk? Are you interested in helping CIEEM achieve its ambitions whilst remaining a stable, efficient and effective organisation?  If so, we have an exciting opportunity for two volunteers to join our Audit, Risk and Investment committee (ARIC) and you could be one of the people we are looking for.

ARIC is a sub-committee of the Governing Board that provides scrutiny of areas of financial, operational and reputational risk and provides advice to the Board on how those risks should be managed. It meets 3 or 4 times a year for 2 – 3 hours, usually remotely via videoconference although occasional in-person meetings may be organised if the Chair requires.

If you are interested and would like to apply then please visit our Volunteer Opportunities Page in the My CIEEM area.

A final word from CIEEM Volunteer Engagement Officer, Drew Lyness, who says: “In my role as VEO, I would just like to say a massive THANK YOU to all the volunteers on the CIEEM Governing Board, Advisory Forum and of course, all the rest of the working groups, sub-committees and more, that might not have received a mention in this series of volunteers week blogs. The work you do is vital, impactful and I know is hugely appreciated by staff at the secretariat, as well as entire membership and indeed the sector as a whole. When we take a step back to look at everything volunteers have achieved for CIEEM in the past year, the volume of outputs are truly staggering! Please keep up the excellent work. I look forward to continue working with you and making an effort to meet as many CIEEM volunteers as possible (albeit often virtually) in the months ahead. Volunteers… you are amazing!”
