Tetra Tech is looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our Planning & Environmental team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecological consultant to take the next step in their career, working on a diverse portfolio of projects across Northern Ireland, the wider UK and Ireland.
You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team on a variety of projects spanning marine, coastal, regeneration and renewable energy developments, providing ecological advice throughout the planning, design and construction lifecycle.
As a Senior Ecologist, you’ll take a key role in delivering high-quality ecological assessments and advice. Your work will include designing and undertaking ecological surveys, interpreting survey data, assessing habitats and protected species, and preparing clear, robust technical reports to support planning applications, marine licensing and other environmental approvals.
You’ll undertake and coordinate Phase 1 habitat assessments, protected species surveys, bat and mammal surveys and wider ecological fieldwork, combining time on site with report writing and project delivery. You’ll review development and construction proposals to identify ecological constraints, opportunities and appropriate mitigation or enhancement measures.
Working closely with clients, regulators, colleagues and other technical disciplines, you’ll help ensure ecological considerations are integrated into projects from an early stage. You’ll also have opportunities to participate in stakeholder and community consultations and contribute to client relationships and business development activities.
We’re looking for someone with previous experience within an ecological consultancy environment who is comfortable managing their own workload and contributing to the coordination and delivery of projects. You’ll have a good understanding of UK and/or Irish environmental legislation, protected species requirements, habitat regulations and the ecological considerations associated with development and land-use planning.
You’ll be confident using GIS and Microsoft Office and able to produce high-quality ecological reports and recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
You will hold a degree in ecology, environmental science or another relevant discipline and be a member of CIEEM or an equivalent professional body. A full current driving licence and access to transport are required, as the role involves travel to survey sites across the UK and Ireland.
The position is based from our Belfast office, with hybrid working and an expectation of approximately two to three days per week in the office to support collaboration, mentoring and team development. Flexible working arrangements can also be accommodated where project requirements allow.
At Tetra Tech, you’ll join a collaborative environment where you can continue developing your technical expertise while gaining exposure to significant and varied environmental projects. Our teams support public and private sector clients to deliver sustainable and resilient solutions, providing access to expertise across the UK, Ireland and our wider global business.
If you’re an experienced ecologist looking for greater responsibility, varied project experience and the opportunity to develop your career within a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy, we’d love to hear from you.
