About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Ecology Officer to join our award-winning Planning Team. You’ll play a key role in supporting major developments, ensuring they meet Biodiversity Net Gain requirements while helping deliver the Council’s environmental ambitions.

Working within the Development Management Team, you’ll:

• Provide expert ecological advice on planning applications and appeals.
• Advise officers, Councillors, developers and residents on biodiversity, habitats and protected species.
• Support delivery of key Council initiatives, including the Nature Recovery Strategy Action Plan, Green and Blue Infrastructure Strategy, and Parks Masterplan.
• Help balance growth with the protection of Hounslow’s Green Belt, conservation areas, River Thames frontage and other important environmental assets.

About you

You’ll have experience in ecology within a planning or development management environment and be able to:

• Provide high-quality advice on biodiversity and planning matters within agreed timescales.
• Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Communicate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrate strong negotiation and influencing skills.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ecology and planning legislation.
• Interpret legislation and recommend improvements to working practices.
