CIEEM co-hosts Nature Day at Labour Party Conference 2026, members welcome

CIEEM is delighted to be co-hosting Nature Day at this year’s Labour Party Conference, alongside SERA – Labour’s Environment Campaign, the National Trust, the Wildlife Trusts, Campaign for National Parks, the Woodland Trust and Mott MacDonald.

Taking place on Tuesday 29 September 2026, 09:30-16:30 at the Quaker Meeting House in Liverpool, the event is held outside the conference secure zone, so no conference pass is needed to attend.

The Minister for Nature, Jenny Riddell-Carpenter MP, will speak, joined by other MPs and expert speakers from across the environment sector. Four panels will explore how nature can sit at the heart of Labour’s agenda for growth, planning and communities:

  • Nature in Every Postcode: What Does the Makerfield Test Mean for Our Environment? (09:30–10:30)
    Speakers include the Minister for Nature, Dr Rose McNeill (Campaign for National Parks), Adam Royle (National Trust) and James Cooper (Woodland Trust), chaired by Steph Spyro of the Daily Express.
  • Planning for People and Nature: how Labour must make nature part of good development (11:00–12:00)
    Chaired by Barry Gardiner MP, with Julia Baker (Mott MacDonald), Bill Eyres (SERA) and CIEEM’s Ben Kite.
  • Good growth in rural communities: Nature as a catalyst for food security and local prosperity (12:30–13:30)
    Chaired by Jonathan Davies MP, with Martin Lines (Nature Friendly Farming Network), Vicki Hird (Wildlife Trusts), Abi Bunker (Woodland Trust) and Adam Royle (National Trust).
  • Labour’s Winning Edge: restoring nature, delivering for people (15:30–16:30)
    Chaired by Chris Hinchliff MP, with Craig Bennett (Wildlife Trusts), Ruth Bradshaw (Campaign for National Parks), Ben Kite (CIEEM) and Julia Baker (Mott MacDonald).

Ben Kite, Chair of CIEEM Strategic Policy Panel, will represent the Institute on the second and fourth panels, sharing the profession’s perspective on how ecological evidence and good practice can help deliver development that works for both people and nature.
