CIEEM Celebrates Chartered Week (23-27 February 2026)
CIEEM is delighted to be celebrating Chartered Week (23-27 February 2026). Reaching Chartered status in your career is a great achievement and demonstrates your breadth of experience and competence in working to the highest of standards.
What is Chartered Week?
Chartered Week is a national awareness initiative that celebrates the impact and achievements of Chartered professionals across all sectors. It’s an opportunity to educate audiences about what being Chartered means and why it matters, as well as a way for us to advocate for the value of Chartered status and the pathways to achieve it.
Why is CIEEM supporting Chartered Week?
At CIEEM, our mission is to raise the standards and profile of professional ecological and environmental management for the benefit of nature and society.
Chartership is a powerful mark of credibility, expertise and commitment – recognised by employers and clients in the sector. During Chartered Week, we’re proud to:
- Celebrate our Chartered members (both Chartered Ecologists and Chartered Environmentalists)
- Share stories of achievement and impact
- Encourage members and aspiring professionals to explore chartership pathways
Being Chartered feels good! It feels good to have achieved Chartered status as something in and of itself with the self-recognition that you have done good work in the environment sector and are an experienced professional. It has definitely increased my confidence in myself and the work I have done. I am sure it has contributed to my career progression.

Chartership at CIEEM
At CIEEM, we offer two routes to Chartership: Chartered Ecologist (CEcol) and Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).
Chartered Ecologist (CEcol)
The Membership Team at CIEEM gave fantastic support and guidance during the process and were really timely in their communication so I could keep up momentum with my application. The assessors conducting the interviews have been lovely and genuinely seemed to be looking to get the best out of me. My advice would be that if you have confidence in your ability and have a good range of evidence to support it, you should readily be able to demonstrate that effectively.

What’s it really like to become a Chartered Ecologist (CEcol)?
In the video below, Chrissy Mason CEcol MCIEEM shares her honest experience of her Chartership journey – from feeling overwhelmed at the start, to gaining confidence, credibility, and reassurance in her professional practice.
Chrissy also talks openly about:
- Getting support from a mentor during the application process
- What the written application and professional review interview are really like
- Requesting reasonable adjustments as an ecologist with ADHD
- How Chartered status boosted her confidence and professional credibility
Achieving Chartered status has enhanced clients’ confidence in my advice and supported my career progression. It has also been a personal source of pride.
