British Standard for Biodiversity Net Gain Published

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published a new set of requirements for the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) in development projects. BNG is an approach to development and land management that leaves biodiversity in a measurably better state that before.

The new British Standard, named BS 8683: Process for designing and implementing biodiversity net gain – Specification, builds on and adds to the UK’s Good Practice Principles of BNG and guide for development produced by CIEEM, CIRIA and IEMA, providing a structured process for designing and implementing BNG based on good practice.

CIEEM was a member of the Committee throughout the development of this standard alongside Building with Nature, UKAS, Natural England, IEMA, local governments eg. Warwickshire County Council and professionals from the built environment such as Balfour Beatty, Network Rail, and Anglian water.

CIEEM is now a Licensed Distributor of publications produced by the British Standards Institute (BSI). This allows us to offer PDF versions of BSI publications to CIEEM members at a significantly discounted rate (30%).
