CIEEM welcomes a new Fellow: Morgan Taylor CEnv FCIEEM

Morgan Taylor CEnv FCIEEM

Morgan Taylor is the Director of Nature at Greengage Environmental Limited, now leading a 55 strong Nature team for this independent multidisciplinary environmental consultancy specialising in built form and land use related sustainability. In his application, Morgan’s extensive experience leading complex nature-climate strategy production for major real estate and asset/land management organisations, alongside work with public sector/third sector groups in the development of best practice guidance, came to the fore.

Morgan’s application for Fellowship focussed on three criteria.

Establishing or raising professional standards through developments in training, quality standards or methods

Morgan has consistently demonstrated imaginative and authoritative leadership from a position of integrity with a strong moral and ethical compass, to advance the place of nature in the built environment. He has done this despite initial limited opportunities, using sophisticated advocacy to advance buy-in ahead of policy and legislative development to advance this important narrative. In his role as a director and leader of the Nature team at Greengage Environmental Ltd, Morgan has helped the consultancy grow significantly in size, impact and reach. He has developed training, quality standards and methods and he has both established and raised professional standards across his areas of expertise. In addition, Morgan has been closely involved in the mainstreaming of nature-related financial disclosure, most notably through his work as instigator, project director and co-author for the Better Building Partnership’s (BBP) Task force for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) UK Real Estate Guidance; a significant piece of work.

Promotion of ecological professionalism among employers, organisations, companies and other institutes

Morgan is an active member of CIEEM’s Action 2030 Group and has spoken at several CIEEM conferences and events, including at the 2023 CIEEM conference on the subject of ‘Potential soil carbon sequestration co-benefits from biodiverse urban green infrastructure’. Promoting ecological professionalism is a major thread of his work in Environment, Social and Governance themes and fundamentally underpins Morgan’s approach to working with corporate entities, positively shaping their interface with nature. His strategies seek to embed ecological professionalism within business practices at scale.

Research which has practical application in the profession of ecology and environmental management.

With strong partnerships, appropriate scientific designs to test hypotheses and long-term commitment, Morgan’s work demonstrates a strong professional understanding of research for practical application. Given that Morgan is not a full-time researcher, this is only possible due to the respect he is held in, and the integrity with which he operates. Morgan’s ability to work in innovative ways to seek positive outcomes for biodiversity and nature conservation has influenced and impressed a range of people over his career.  His research and work have also been recognised by several professional accolades and awards to date.

In awarding Morgan Fellowship, the Governing Board agreed that:

“Morgan Taylor has made a significant and substantial contribution to our profession and would represent good role model and ambassador for CIEEM as a Fellow. There is good evidence of proactively and positively influencing the natural environment outside his main role, particularly in the fields of environmental, social and governance reporting and green finance. Morgan is outward facing in what he does and uses his considerable expertise and substantial experience to influence, educate and help others beyond his main role.”

I’m thrilled to have been made a CIEEM Fellow. Whilst it is not why you do the job, it is fantastic to receive such recognition. It is especially nice in a world which, of late, has seen regressive policy and rhetoric dominate, fuelled by naive politicking – a small reminder that the effort we put in is still seen and felt.
