IPBES-12 Stakeholder Day: Bringing voices together ahead of the Plenary

The Stakeholder Day of IPBES-12 took place on 2 February 2026, ahead of the 12th meeting of the IPBES Plenary, which convenes in Manchester from 3-8 February 2026. CIEEM followed the proceedings online.

Stakeholder Day precedes each IPBES Plenary and is organised by stakeholders for stakeholders. It provides an opportunity for scientists, representatives of Indigenous and local communities, civil society organisations and other knowledge holders to exchange views, learn about IPBES processes, share ideas and strengthen connections across the IPBES community.

The programme included welcome remarks from the IPBES Executive Secretary and the UK Special Representative for Nature, followed by sessions exploring why stakeholders matter, how IPBES assessment findings are taken up, and the role of evidence in informing business and behavioural change. Presentations on engagement and behaviour change were a particular highlight, showcasing a range of perspectives from around the world.

While attendance appeared lower than expected in the auditorium, the virtual format enabled a broad international audience to engage with discussions.

CIEEM will continue to follow IPBES-12 and keep members updated on relevant discussions, activities and outcomes as the Plenary progresses.
