CIEEM response to the Defra Consultation on Improving the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain for minor, medium and brownfield development
CIEEM has responded to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) consultation on Improving the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain for minor, medium and brownfield development. This is an incredibly important consultation, including questions on options around extending exemptions, simplifying the small sites metric, addressing specific challenges for brownfield developments and increasing ease of access to the off-site market.
We believe that BNG, when implemented correctly, will maximise biodiversity gains, support sustainable development, and align with national and local environmental strategies. We are urging as many members as possible to respond to this consultation, and to make that process as simple as possible, we have produced two responses, one being our full response containing detailed explanations for each answer (which will be submitted to Defra), and the other, a more simplified version, containing answers to the questions posed by Defra but without explanation.
Here is our detailed response to the consultation: CIEEM Response to the Consultation on Improving the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain for minor, medium and brownfield development.
