£22 Million for Peatland Restoration in Scotland

Scottish Government has announced projects to restore Scotland’s peatlands will get a share of £22 million this year to significantly reduce carbon emissions and support biodiversity as part of the government’s climate change plan.

In 2020, the Scottish Government announced a £250 million ten-year funding package to support peatland restoration, with a target of restoring 250,000 hectares of degraded peatland by 2030. Partners receiving funding this year include NatureScot and Scottish Water.

Environment Minister Mairi McAllan said:

…Scotland is centre stage this year with COP26 in Glasgow and our significant investment in peatland restoration is just one of the ways we are demonstrating our world leading climate action.

We have recently announced we will be taking part in Scottish Environment Link’s Nature Champions initiative as the host organisation for Blanket Bogs. We are excited to be a part of this initiative and are looking forward to linking with a Member of Scottish Parliament as a champion for this incredibly important habitat.
