ESS Letter to Stakeholders
The Chair of Environmental Standards Scotland (ESS) has written to stakeholders to introduce the Board and set out their early thoughts on priorities.
The Chair is Jim Martin, and the other Board members are Richard Dixon, Marie Fallon, Paul McAleavey and Annalisa Savaresi.
The letter says: “ESS is a new independent body set up to ensure the effectiveness of environmental law, and to prevent enforcement gaps arising from the UK leaving the European Union. It is currently operating on a non-statutory basis, but will gain the statutory powers set out in the UK Withdrawal from the European Union (Continuity) (Scotland) Act later in 2021.
Over the next few months, one of our first priorities will be to establish the processes and procedures that will help us ensure that Scotland has high environmental standards, and strong systems which maintain them. As a Board, we are clear that ESS will only be successful in achieving this if we listen to, and work with, stakeholders and the public. We would welcome your involvement in this process to help put ESS on the right track from the outset, and to collaborate to realise our common goals.”
