Natural England Launches Nitrates Calculator in Solent
Natural England has launched a nitrates calculator to allow for assessment and mitigation of nutrient impacts in proposed new developments in the Solent region, Hampshire.
The calculator aims to help unblock a housing freeze in Hampshire and part of the south coast where high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus are damaging internationally important waters.
The calculator will allow developers to calculate their nutrient budget and mitigate to show with “sufficient and reasonable certainty that the development does not adversely affect the integrity, by means of nutrients, on the relevant internationally designated sites”.
