Natural Capital Committee Publish Advice on Nature-Based Solutions for Attaining Net-Zero
The Natural Capital Committee (NCC) has published a report setting out their advice to government on taking a natural capital approach to attaining net zero.
The recommendations focus on taking a holistic, joined-up approach, linking the implementation of the 25-Year plan, Agriculture Bill, Environment Bill and spatial planning with local delivery of nature-based solutions. The Committee recommend quickly moving to an environmental net gain approach but warn that the price of carbon should not be valued above other ecosystem services.
The NCC also advise that a comprehensive baseline of natural capital assets is urgently needed to ensure that initiatives deliver environmental outcomes and ongoing research is needed to improve natural capital evaluation methods.
