Mike Oxford

Mike has over 40 years of experience in nature conservation and has a long interest in promoting good practices in biodiversity conservation, which goes back to the 1990s and the emergence of CIEEM. He worked for over 20 years as the part-time Project Officer for the Association of Local Government Ecologists (ALGE) where he championed the cause of ecology in all aspects of local government. Over his career, Mike has worked in partnership with most statutory and non-statutory nature conservation bodies in the UK on a wide range of initiatives – with many of these leading to publication or professional guidance. He also has a sound understanding of ecological work on site and worked on one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects where he was the principal lead for ecology. Mike enjoys a range of artistic and practical hobbies including oil painting, carpentry, DIY and boat building! His favourite outdoor activity is with his wife when they can get out into the heart of the Scottish Highlands with a backpack and small tent. But he loves walking and camping pretty much anywhere.
