Call For Young People to Apply For Environmental Work Placement
CIEEM is one of just 70 organisations in the country to be selected to host a New To Nature 12-month work placement. ‘New to Nature’ seeks to encourage diverse young talent to take up a career in the environment, offering fully paid, entry level staff posts.
New to Nature offers those aged 18-25 new, full-time, temporary work placements in nature and landscape organisations across the UK, increasing diversity and enriching the sector.
Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the programme will run until May 2024 and provide paid work placements for young people from diverse backgrounds to undertake a range of environmental roles.
The New to Nature programme is being delivered through a partnership of Groundwork, The Prince’s Trust, Disability Rights UK, and Mission Diverse.
As part of this, we are delighted to be recruiting for a ‘Green Jobs for Nature Outreach Assistant’. The main aim of this role will be to support our Green Jobs for Nature outreach work by managing the Green Jobs for Nature website and supporting our campaign to promote it to young people, especially those from backgrounds that are currently under-represented in our sector which includes people with disabilities, people of colour and people from low income households.
Although the role will be working for CIEEM, it will support the wider Green Jobs for Nature campaign for the sector, so we can all benefit as a whole from this.
The New to Nature programme focuses on attracting those who are from diverse backgrounds as research shows:
- 57% of disabled people feel excluded from being able to reduce their environmental impact
- Less than 5% of environment professionals are from ethnic minority backgrounds
This innovative new initiative aims to inspire and show those who aren’t the typical demographic that green jobs are both an accessible and exciting prospect, that in turn boosts the diversity of the green jobs sector.
We would really appreciate it if you could help share this fantastic opportunity within your networks of young people, through your work connections, family and friends.
