Please read our FAQ below for questions we receive often about the awards:

Why should I enter the CIEEM awards?

Our awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of both individuals and projects working within the sector for the benefit of nature and the environment. Receiving recognition, either via winning or being shortlisted for an award, is a great achievement and showcases the contribution you have made to the profession and to the sustainability of the natural environment.

What 2025 Awards categories are open for nominations?

This year we have eight awards open for nominations.

  • Postgraduate Student Project
  • Higher Education Programme of the Year
  • Member of the Year
  • Promising Professional
  • Climate and Nature Action 2030 Award
  • Best Practice Awards
  • NGO Impact
  • Consultancy of the Year

See this year’s Entry Guidance document for more details.

Are there any categories closed for nominations?

In addition to our eight awards that are open for nominations, we have three further awards which are closed to nominations. The first is the CIEEM Medal which is the Chartered Institute’s highest accolade and is awarded in recognition of an outstanding single or life-long contribution to the field of ecology and environmental management. The second is the In Practice Article Award where all 2024 feature articles are automatically nominated. Finally there is the Tony Bradshaw Award for Outstanding Best Practice for which all the Best Practice category winners are automatically considered. It should be noted that this Award is at the discretion of the judges and may not always be awarded.

What criteria do we have to meet?

Each category has its own criteria that must be met. Your entry should include evidence of how the criteria have been met. See this year’s Entry Guidance document for more details.

Who can enter the CIEEM awards?

Nominations can only be received from current CIEEM members, but non-CIEEM members can be nominated for certain awards. See this year’s Entry Guidance document for more details.

Can I nominate someone for an Award?

Yes, but make sure you have enough supporting evidence to make a good case. See this year’s Entry Guidance document for more details.

What is the closing date for entries?

Each award category has its own strict closing date. Late entries are not accepted. See this year’s Entry Guidance document for more details.

How much does it cost to enter the Awards?

Nothing – it is free to submit award nominations so if there is more than one category you’d like to enter go for it!

How are the awards judged?

Each award is judged by a panel of volunteer CIEEM members. When all entries are in, we do a check with the judges to ensure no conflict of interests. The judges will independently look through each application and then allocate a score for each criteria. These scores are then collated and the judges have the opportunity to discuss the merits of each nomination in more detail before drawing up a short-list from which the winners for each category are chosen. For the NGO Impact award, for the first time this shortlist will be opened up for members to vote on.

The CIEEM Medal is judged by the Vice Presidents on behalf of the Governing Board.

If you’d like to volunteer to be involved in judging the awards please drop the Awards team an email at awards@cieem.net

How will I know if my entry is successful?

If you’re lucky enough to have been shortlisted you will be contacted in early April and invited to attend our Awards Luncheon at the end of June. All nominees are offered a complimentary place and are welcome to purchase additional tickets for project partners, colleagues, friends and family. If you have not heard when the shortlist is announced then we are sorry but your entry has not been successful on this occasion.

When and where is the Awards ceremony?

The awards will take place in June 2025, with the official date and location TBC.

How do I book to attend the Awards ceremony?

To purchase additional tickets for family, colleagues and friends, please use our online booking system that will be made available on our website once shortlisted entries have been notified in April.
