This is a great opportunity to join a busy, established Ecology Consultancy. We continue to grow and require Ecologists at various skill levels and at three strategic locations.
Our HQ is within the Northern Quarter, Manchester, with offices in the East Midlands and West Devon. We are looking for new staff for all three locations. We have a large workflow, with regular clients across the residential and commercial sectors.
For the role of Principal Ecologist (salary of £45k-£60k per annum), we require people with ideally 2+ years of experience and the following abilities:
- A commercial approach.
- A can-do attitude and strong work ethic, working with pride.
- Good communication skills, both in-house and with clients.
- Good report writing skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, sometimes in remote locations, staying away when required and sometimes working unsociable hours.
- Full UK driving licence and use of a car.
- The ability to plan/deliver basic habitat and protected species surveys / reports (e.g. PEA, UK Habs, BNG assessments, bats, Badger, Water Vole, etc.).
- The ability to deliver work within budget and on time.
- Prepare fee proposals.
- Undertake risk assessments.
- Be developing specialist skills/expertise.
- Manage simple projects.
- Manage and analyse data.
- Undertake GIS Mapping.
- Lead by example.
- Undertake technical reviews/approvals (simple projects).
- Mentor Junior Ecologists/Ecologists.
- Specialist technical work (surveys and reporting).
- Prepare fee proposals/tenders.
- Undertake complex risk assessments.
- Carry out client care.
- Manage more complex projects.
- Manage sub-contractors, and,
- Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, with a willingness to be flexible with working hours when needed.
- Manage staff (appraisals, training/mentoring).
- Manage complex projects.
- Allocate projects to staff (meeting every 1-2 weeks to review workload and resourcing).
- Understand the financial needs of the company.
