2021- Nature based solutions: opportunities in a time of biodiversity crisis and climate emergency

Last year, Ireland and CIEEM declared a climate emergency and biodiversity crisis with Northern Ireland doing in early 2020. It is vital, as never before, that the work of CIEEM, its members and our professions continue to be at the forefront of targeted action. We believe that Nature-based solutions (NbS) must play a key role and given the importance it has been given at a government policy level, a wider discussion is needed. We hope that by focusing on NbS for the conference theme we can encourage its implementation in our work as ecologists and environmental managers.  To provide some support and information, we have a range of excellent speakers lined up for you to listen to.

These speakers will be discussing NbS implementation in different sectors and habitats in Ireland, including forestry, local community projects and wastewater treatment. We will be exploring some practical tools that can be used as well as discussing the higher-level understanding of NbS and how it can be used in your work to help address the current biodiversity and climate crisis.
