Senior or Principal Ecologist
Department: Environment and Health division
Location: Belfast, U.K. or Dublin, Ireland
Overview: As our new Senior or Principal Ecologist, you will be part of our Biodiversity and Ecosystems Global Service Line within the Environment and Health division. You will work on projects ranging from transport infrastructure to commercial and residential development, as well as renewable energy projects. You will join a dynamic and expanding team delivering key projects and further developing a variety of skills within the environmental consultancy sector. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage small to medium-scale projects with support from ecology team leads
- Main contact for project managers, clients, partners, and sub-consultants
- Plan and undertake ecological surveys, produce reports (e.g., Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)
- Design and deliver ecological mitigation
- Liaise with regulators and planning authorities
- Deliver technical work on complex projects
- Prepare fee proposals and assist with client management
- Supervise and manage junior ecologists, input to resource planning
At Principal Grade:
- Effective resource planning, management, and team mentoring
- Review reports (EIA chapters, HRA, species licence applications)
- Deliver complex projects on time and on budget
- Business development and client relationship management
About You:
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook (ideally ArcGIS)
- Familiar with digital data capture in ecology fieldwork
- Experienced in fieldwork and survey techniques
- Communicate effectively in written and spoken English
- Produce clear, concise documents
- Hold protected species survey licences (ideally bats)
- Knowledge of environmental/ecology legislation
- Understand planning systems in Ireland and Northern Ireland
- Full clean driving licence, willing to undertake surveys at unsociable hours, and flexibility for occasional travel
