Senior Hydrogeologist (Severn Trent)

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

With that in mind we’re looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist who loves a technical challenge, to join our dynamic team driving our groundwater strategy forward to a sustainable and resilient future.

Do you come from a senior hydrogeologist or an environmental regulator background and have experience of water resources management? Are you an excellent communicator with great influencing skills, and the ability to communicate simple or complex messages as required to promote practical solutions? Or perhaps you have extensive experience in dealing with legislation influencing water resources and groundwater and the regulations and standards around drinking water quality?

If so, then read on

One third of the Severn Trent Water supply system is obtained from groundwater resources, obtained from approximately 150 sources and 300 boreholes.  As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will be a member of Severn Trent Water’s Hydrogeology Team, comprising technical specialists that shape the groundwater strategy for the company, provide technical advice and operational support, and both develop and maintain catchment risk assessments for the business.

When successful, you will lead projects and programmes of work to support the team’s goals. You will work with our stakeholders to protect and enhance the quality of our groundwater, make improvements to our processes/asset data and undertake investigations so that we have the best evidence available from which we can make sound business decisions.  You will coach and mentor junior team members and be an active member of industry technical / scientific bodies and lead on policy development.

The areas of work relating to groundwater and hydrogeology include:

  • Water quality risk assessments and long-term complex source investigations
  • Research on emerging contaminants, investigations and external collaboration with treatment process engineers and our innovation team to promote new strategies
  • Development of strategies to inform the Water Resources Management Plan and Business Plan submissions
  • Water Supply System strategy development through collaboration with our Sustainable Abstraction, Infrastructure/Network and Operational teams
  • Building resilience capability into our assets, covering both quantity and quality, and influencing the business to transition away from traditional investment routes
  • Borehole capital maintenance schemes, acting as the technical sponsor
  • Turbidity, water quality and downhole site investigation programmes to inform capital programmes pre-feasibility, and understand DO recovery potential
  • Tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of the water for our customers.
