Principal/Associate Ecologist, Assistant Team Manager

We are recruiting principled and highly motivated ecologists who are driven by providing a high-quality service for the benefit of our clients, the environment, and the communities in which we operate.  TEP is an exciting place to work as an ecologist and as our established and stable team grows and diversifies, we have job opportunities particularly in senior and management roles.

We are looking for experienced ecologists (envisaged 8 years+) to join as Principal/Associate ecologists in our leadership team to assist with team management and deliver ecologically complex projects.

Founded 25 years ago, TEP is an award-winning multidisciplinary environmental consultancy providing a wide range of ecological services across a national portfolio of projects.  Ecology and habitat restoration is a pillar of the services we provide.

TEP is responding to the climate and ecological emergency. We live in a nature-depleted country, and professional ecologists have a critical role in changing things for the better. We are proud of award-winning projects such as Heathlands where TEP designed and implemented a 45 pond mitigation scheme on a derelict site leading to one of the largest populations of great crested newts in Europe being recorded.   Our Farmland Conservation Area at Lytham Moss is an exemplar of nature recovery associated with development. We work alongside Natural England to advise on protected site management and are working with visionary clients such as the Eden Project and National Trust who inspire us to think how development can be deeply sustainable.

Our ecologists are supported by our other skill teams in arboriculture, landscape management, landscape design, green infrastructure, planning and heritage. Our ecologists work closely with these teams on numerous multidisciplinary projects.
Ecology is the largest team and three of TEP’s seven Directors are ecologists. Ecology is key in shaping the business both.  We have seen steady growth over 25 years including diversification of our ecology services and now have an established, in-house team of nearly 50 ecologists across five offices.

We are a close-knit team with many of us joining at the early stages of our career and progressing through the company.  We therefore have firsthand experience of understanding the challenges that come with competing demands for survey and office time and have a support network in place to help manage this, including dedicated administrative support to allow our ecologists to focus on delivery of surveys and schemes.  Staff wellbeing is a priority, mental first aiders, a strong mentor structure, workload monitoring, TOIL, hybrid working and an employee assistance package assist in creating a good work/life balance for staff.

We recognise the valuable contribution that ecologists bring to developments and ensure we equip all our staff with the skills, knowledge, resources, and management support to enable gathering of high-quality baseline data and effective mitigation and ecological design.

We have been an Investor in People since 2002 and have maintained Gold Standard since 2011. Our Investors in People auditor stated: “this is a dynamic organisation with an excellent grasp of the benefits of investing in staff and is constantly seeking new and more effective ways to improve performance”.

Our staff are fully supported in their professional development and encouraged to play an active part in the way TEP is run.  We are a CIEEM registered practice and seek to help create a well respect industry of qualified, supported, and well-rounded ecologists.  We actively value diversity and this is reflected in our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion which is applied in recruitment, induction, promotion, and retention.

Further information on the roles we are offering including details of how to apply can be found here.
