The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) is the leading professional membership body for ecologists and environmental managers working to protect and enhance the natural environment.
CIEEM is increasingly recognised by its members and external stakeholders as the voice of the profession through its effective, evidence-based and knowledgeable input into, and support for, policy and practice.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy Officer or Senior Policy Officer to join the CIEEM team. This post will work with the Head of Policy and other colleagues and volunteers to further deliver CIEEM’s policy ambitions, primarily in Scotland, Wales and the island of Ireland.
The successful candidate will help deliver our policy engagement and influencing objectives, assisting to ensure that the expertise and experience of CIEEM members along with relevant evidence is used to create and improve environmental policy and legislation, and to help raise the profile of our profession.
These are exciting and yet challenging times for the ecology and environmental management sector. With much change in environmental policy across the UK nations and the EU this is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to both use and develop their skills and experience in the field of environmental policy engagement to help make positive change for people and nature. There is much to do and we are looking for someone with energy, enthusiasm and insight, and who never wants to stop learning in the role.
The Policy Officer role would suit a recent graduate or early career professional looking to develop their policy influencing and advocacy skills. But if you already have some relevant experience together with an understanding of how environmental policy is developing across the UK and Ireland and an interest in line management then the Senior Policy Officer role may be what you are looking for.
We especially welcome applications from candidates with a strong connection to – or understanding of – environmental policy in Wales, Scotland and/or the island of Ireland.
As part of our commitment to making CIEEM a great place to work, we offer a comprehensive reward and benefits package which includes: flexible working arrangements; 25 days leave plus public holidays; a generous Workplace Qualifying Pension Scheme with CIEEM contributing up to 10% of gross salary (dependent on employee’s contribution) for eligible employees; professional development opportunities; and access to an employee assistance programme.
Whilst the role is remote (home-based), some travel to the office in Ampfield (near Romsey in Hampshire) and to Wales, Scotland and Ireland will be required.
Closing Date: Sunday 1st October 2023
