We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Marine & Coastal Engagement Officer to join our newly formed Marine & Coastal Recovery Team. This multi-faceted role provides opportunities to deliver impactful projects, build positive relationships and take real ownership on the management and development of the Trust’s marine and coastal engagement programme.
Our Marine & Coastal Recovery Team deliver ambitious and impactful projects that include saltmarsh restoration, native oyster restoration, seagrass restoration and protecting beach-nesting birds. The successful person will join the Team at an exciting time as we develop and scale-up our efforts to achieve marine and coastal recovery in line with the Trust’s Marine and Coastal Strategy and to deliver the Trust’s core objectives of 30% of land and sea connected and protected for nature by 2030 and 1 in 4 people in Essex taking action for wildlife by 2030.
The Marine & Coastal Engagement Officer will develop and deliver on-the-ground projects and activities that engage, influence and enable key communities, stakeholders and partners to remove or reduce key pressures on marine and coastal wildlife. As a confident communicator and spokesperson of the Trust, you will coordinate and run events and activities that raise awareness, empower and inspire individuals and groups to take action. The successful candidate will train and mobilise volunteers and citizen scientists across the county to collect valuable data to evidence pressures and recovery, and support engagement. You will also support priority marine and coastal policy, consultation, planning and campaigns work.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in marine and coastal conservation and demonstrable project management experience with a real passion and aptitude for collaboration and engagement. Take ownership of stimulating ‘live’ projects as well as developing other priority areas, the post holder will aspire to develop a team over time. As a real people-person who can engage, inspire and influence, a core part of the role will be proactively collaborating with a range of communities, stakeholders and groups – building positive and long-lasting relationships. The ability to manage a broad range of interests with an empathetic and pragmatic approach will be key.
This is a permanent, full-time role (Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm) with a starting salary of £29,500.00 per annum. The role requires a valid full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
