Lead Ecologist (Cultura Connect)

The Opportunity:

Are you an experienced ecologist ready to deliver ecological assessments and sustainable environmental solutions across the UK? We are seeking a dedicated Ecologist to join a dynamic team, managing ecological projects within a well-established forestry and timber business.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to conduct comprehensive ecological surveys, provide specialist guidance on woodland management, and work with diverse stakeholders. The role offers flexibility to work remotely or from offices across the UK.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To plan and manage ecological surveys and assessments, ensuring high-quality delivery while managing budgets and timelines
  • To design and conduct habitat and protected species surveys, implement monitoring programs in forested landscapes
  • To prepare technical reports, ecological assessments, and licence applications to support planning approvals
  • To provide expert guidance to stakeholders, ensuring environmental compliance with legislation and company policies
  • To engage with clients, delivering advice on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and natural capital enhancement
  • To promote environmental and health & safety standards by conducting inspections and ensuring compliance
  • To support colleagues in ecological practices and contribute to maintaining the Environmental Management System
  • To identify new ecological opportunities and contribute to business growth within forestry operations

Skills you will need:

Essential:

  • A degree in ecology, environmental science, land use, or a related field
  • Proven experience in ecological consultancy and managing ecological projects
  • Expertise in conducting habitat and protected species surveys
  • Holder of protected species licences (e.g., bats, newts) and CSCS card
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and policy
  • CIEEM membership (or equivalent)
  • Highly organised with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled relationship builder with proven ability to maintain strong client relations
  • Diligent and self-motivated with commercial acumen
  • Confident using GIS tools (e.g. QGIS), mobile data apps, and Microsoft 365
  • UK driving license and a desire to travel

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of forestry management and working within multidisciplinary environmental teams
  • Experience in peatland and bog restoration
  • Competent in preparing PEAs, ECIAs, HRAs, management plans, and designing mitigation strategies
