Environmental Scientist (NextEnergy Capital)

This is a new high impact role in a very successful renewable energy company and is a perfect opportunity for someone with broad experience in environmental science to join NEC in this exciting role. NextEnergy Capital prides itself on being leaders in the industry and needs to retain its market position, in line with its ESG ethos. This position will be responsible for, maintaining the ecology of sites, analysing the year on year for marked improvements on all aspects including the water, carbon and soil.

Key accountabilities will be:

  • Leading on further advancements of NEC environmental policy and implementation plans throughout the portfolio and monitoring to ensure that the policy is working and make adjustments if necessary
  • Capturing best practices for environmental management from the initial planning stage of a solar site through to operational phase
  • Overarching ecological value of the NEC portfolios
  • Improving ecological value of the sites to reflect the initial capital expenditure as well as meeting financial returns on the fund’s investment
  • Land monetisation–making the site ecological enhancements financial value adds
  • Adhering to the approved land management plans and exceeding requirements to bring about additional Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Formulation of the management scheme to capture elements of waste management, water consumption and water quality to support as our ongoing projects from development to a fully operational solar site (ensuring that the data capture is easy for ESG monitoring)
  • Providing expert ecological input for a range of projects
  • Overseeing Appropriate Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and other environmental reporting requirements
  • Developing excellent relationships within the funds clients and attending meetings
  • Understand, integrate, and distil land management

To be successful in the role, you’ll need to be/have:

  • Degree Ecological and Environmental Sciences
  • Member of CIEEM,CIWEM or equivalent professional body
  • Detailed knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation within the UK and Ireland
  • Experience in Ecological and Environmental Impact Assessments (EcIA/EIA)
  • Experience in project/task management of small-mid-scale projects
  • Ability to integrate policy and enhance a solar sites environment benefits
  • Highly pro-active, possessing strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Be a committed team player with the ability to multi-task
  • Be fluent in English
