About Us

Snowdonia National Park Authority protects the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of Snowdonia National Park. Covering 823 miles of diverse landscape, the Park is home to over 26,000 people, the highest mountain in Wales and England and the largest natural lake in Wales.

We’re now looking for an Ecologist to join the Snowdonia team and provide expert biodiversity and ecological advice on a 3 year fixed term contract.

The Role

As an Ecologist, you will join the planning service and ensure that we conserve biodiversity, protect species and statutory designated sites and handle a range of other nature conservation matters.

Your role will involve:

-Providing professional and timely ecological advice on planning and development issues
-Providing ecological advice on planning applications, pre-application enquiries and other development proposals
-Assisting with the statutory Development Plan, Supplementary Planning Guidance and other policy issues
-Where relevant, working with other Local Planning Authorities (LPA’s) across the North Wales region

About You

To be considered as an Ecologist, you will need:

– The ability to communicate in both Welsh and English

– A degree in a relevant scientific, biological and/or land management subject
– An awareness of National Park purposes
– An understanding of the planning and development process
– A good understanding of current ecological issues and legislation, particularly in relation to planning and development issues
– The ability to write clearly and concisely
– A good level of computer literacy and confidence in the use of Microsoft Office software
– Experience of using GIS
– Membership of relevant professional body
