Development Officer/Senior Development Officer – Ecologist
Fixed Term Contract – ending on 31 March 2022
Following a sustained expansion of work we have a fantastic opportunity for a Development Officer – Ecologist to join our Conservation of the Historic Environment, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Ecology Team. The team provides professional and technical advice on heritage, landscape, design, and ecology issues with regards environmental, policy, spatial planning and the statutory planning process. The team is also responsible for the designation and management of Solihull’s 23 Local Nature Reserves and the delivery of externally funded projects.
As Development Officer – Ecologist you will be responsible for delivering our Bees and Trees Project, an ambitious 3 year project funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) via the Greening the Grey Project. The Bees and Trees project will deliver a range of habitat improvements including woodland management and grassland enhancements on SMBC land. You will also support colleagues within the Council’s Funding and Commercialisation team by advising on funding awards via the Small Habitats Grant and oversee the delivery of these projects.
You will have:
- Hands on practical nature conservation experience
- A proven track record of delivering habitat creation projects and be able to advise on the management of different habitats.
- A sound knowledge of British ecology and be able to carry out habitat surveys such as Phase 1, Phase 2, NVC and UK Habitat Classification.
- A valid driving license, access to a vehicle for business purposes and flexibility to carry out site visits across the borough.
