Job Description in Brief

  • The role will involve carrying out and contributing to a range of ecological consultancy services including:
  • Multidisciplinary and specialist (habitat, botanic, mammals, bats, birds etc.) ecological surveys.
  • Using GIS and preparing digital maps.
  • Undertaking and/or contributing to Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Appropriate Assessment reports (AA, NIS, NIR).
  • Working closely with other staff members and sub-consultants as part of ecological survey teams.
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Liaising with statutory stakeholders.
  • Reporting regularly to other staff and/or directors on significant issues arising in projects.

Candidates must possess

  • An honours degree in ecology, natural science or a related biological discipline.
  • A passion for ecology and working outdoors in all seasons.
  • Good working knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife and planning legislation.
  • Good field identification skills in at least one area (e.g. botany, mammals, birds or other area).
  • Good working knowledge of habitat and species survey design and implementation to relevant industry best practice guidelines.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well in a busy environment unsupervised and using own initiative.
  • Flexible friendly attitude and willingness to adapt to the changing needs of a small but fast growing business.
  • Commitment to a high level of client care and service delivery.

Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management membership and 1 or more years’ professional experience in ecological consultancy would be highly desirable.
