Assistant Biodiversity Officer (Cotswold District Council)

Cotswold District Council declared an Ecological Emergency in 2020 and this post will help to implement key components of the Ecological Emergency Action Plan.  We want to make sure that the amazing biodiversity of our District is conserved and enhanced, working with our partners to promote and deliver nature recovery and green infrastructure at local and strategic levels.

This post is part of an experienced team of environmental specialists who work across a number of Councils as part of Publica. This will enable you to access a wide range of support and mentoring, allowing you to gain invaluable experience and develop your environmental skills.

About the role…

There are two key elements to this role-

Biodiversity and new developments:

  • To assist in the provision of biodiversity advice at all stages of the planning application process, working in partnership with Planning Officer colleagues, developers, planning agents, ecological consultants, environmental organisations and the  local community.
  • To encourage high standards of biodiversity design in new development, including the protection and management of existing biodiversity, the creation of new habitats and green infrastructure and the delivery of biodiversity net gain.
  • Assist in supporting enforcement and prosecution work with regard to any illegal or unauthorised work that affect biodiversity.

Biodiversity in the Cotswold Water Park:

  • Work with all relevant partners and stakeholders to co-ordinate the implementation of the Cotswold Water Park Nature Recovery Plan.
